Gingerbread Time

This coming weekend my partner & I are having a Christmas party, to celebrate the season as well as 30 years together. As part of the holiday decorating process (we're aiming for over the top), I decided to make a gingerbread house for the desert table.

Trying to give it an Oz theme, I hit on a gingerbread Emerald City palace. I haven't made a gingerbread house in a while, and found it took quite a bit more time than I remembered! Matters weren't helped by the loss of a piece to a small dog named Pepper. After replacing the damaged piece (which was the back of the main tower), things progressed smoothly.

I considered making some John Dough cookies while I was in gingerbread mode, but they may have to wait for another year!

I made John Dough cookies for a party once. My mom's recipe called for brown sugar, but we were out, so we used white. Perfect coloring. With top hats cut with a snowman cookie cutter and tiny candy canes, as well as some cookie decorations, we were set. Sadly, no one understood what they were.

This is absolutely incredible. What a talented person you are. Congrats on your anniversary and thank Diane for posting this on her blog. What a wonderful gift to us!!! By the way I have a grandson turning 3 and last year we bought him and outdoor ornament of the tin man. He loves the wizard of Oz!!! It was made out of tin cans.

your gingerbread is amazing. We had a dog named Pepper once. My dad called her Vac. She ate everything in sight.

WOW...absolutely FANTABULOUS! You will definitely achieve "over the top" status if this palace is an indication!

I love the dog equation...that would be the "down side" to pupster companions -- but looks like you salvaged it all quite nicely!

Well done!
